SMHS GIRLS SOCCER

San Marcos High School senior Daci Suarez signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her soccer career and play for Nelson University in Waxahachie.

Suarez is excited for the next chapter of her soccer career after signing on the dotted line.

“It was really meaningful to me,” Suarez said. “Signing to Nelson University. I’m glad that my coach– the college one–gave me the opportunity to have this chance.”

For Suarez, Nelson was the best fit due to the connections she made with the coaches and her future teammates.

“I chose Nelson because I felt like the coaches, the girls and the environment there when I went to visit, I felt I was just connected somehow,” Suarez said. “I felt [at] home and the coaches are really sweet and so are all of the girls.”

Suarez is not the only one in her family to play college soccer with her two older sisters being able to play at the next level.

After watching them play college soccer, it was Suarez’s dream to follow in their footsteps.

“I feel like I’m following in their steps,” Suarez said. “I’m glad that I am continuing the train. Whenever I watched them in college, I always dreamed of going to play in college as well. I’m the last one, so I have to make it the best.”

Her advice for future San Marcos varsity soccer players that want to follow in her footsteps is simple.

“I say keep working hard,” Suarez said. “Don’t be lazy, take any time off. Train to be better, so if you want to play at the next level, you could get better.”

Suarez and the Lady Rattlers are having a bounceback year, winning four games and one draw as the team starts the push towards district play.

With the Lady Rattlers filled with senior players, Suarez believes the team is good enough to compete for the district title.

“The season is going really well,” Suarez said. “We have our players that we need now, and yes, they’re mostly seniors, but we got it. This season, I feel like we’ll win the district. Compared to last year, I feel like we weren’t as connected. But now that we’re all seniors we all know how to play soccer well together, and we’ve been playing for the past four years.”
