Two of the many exciting new shows added to our schedule at KZSM 104.1/KZSM.org provide a wealth of information about life in our amazing city. “San Marcos in Focus” airs from 11:30 a.m. to noon on the fourth Tuesday of every month. On each broadcast, a different guest from the city of San Marcos joins host Rob Roark to share information about the work their department does for the community. Guests might be elected officials, city staff or volunteer members of city boards and commissions.
The most recent broadcast featured Alison Brake, Historic Preservation Officer, discussing her work to preserve and protect the city’s Historical Districts. Other city of San Marcos guests included Assistant City Manager for Safety Lonzo Anderson, Assistant City Manager Rodney Gonzales and City Manager Stephanie Reyes. Conversations might include anything from major city issues to simple but essential information such as trash collection schedules.
For more about the abundant goods and services available in our city, tune in to “Downtown Discoveries” at 5:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Hosted by Jovan Marin, Axis and Wildfire owner, on behalf of the Downtown Association, the show features representatives of businesses and organizations based in downtown San Marcos talking with Marin and producer Rob Roark about what they have to offer. On recent broadcasts, the hosts enjoyed tasting drinks from The Davenport and sampling chicken from the newly opened Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken. Walter Thorington of Alchemy records appeared on another show. Our Downtown is made up of nonprofit organizations as well as businesses; representatives of the League of Women Voters visited “Downtown Discoveries” just before the election for a lively conversation.
