SMHS GIRLS’S BASKETBALL
The Lady Rattlers added another district win to their resume, beating the East Central Hornets 6230 on the road.
The victory improves San Marcos’ record to 23-6 overall and 9-1 in district play. San Marcos also moved up in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 6A state rankings to No. 20.
The Lady Rattlers started off hot and outscored the Hornets 15-5 in the first quarter. East Central was unable to recapture the lead, allowing San Marcos to capture the win.
Junior forward Azariah Fennell led the team in scoring with 23 points followed by junior forward Melayna Perkins with 13.
No. 20 San Marcos returns home tonight in a district showdown with the No. 1 Converse Judson Rockets with a Lady Rattler win earning them a share of their first district championship since the 2014-2015 season.
The Rockets enter their showdown with the Lady Rattlers with a 31-1 overall record and a 10-0 district record. In their district game last Tuesday, Judson defeated Cibolo Steele 51-36.
The Lady Rattlers will look to avenge their only district loss of the season to Judson, losing to the Rockets 63-27.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Snake Pit.
