SMHS GIRLS BASKETBALL
The No. 24-ranked Lady Rattlers ended the regular season on the road, losing to the No. 25-ranked Cibolo Steele Knights 62-49.
The loss drops San Marcos’ record to 23-8 overall and their district record to 9-3, forcing a tie for second place with Steele.
Junior Azariah Fennell led the team in scoring with 19 points followed by junior Melayna Perkins with 12 points. Sophomore Rileigh Good was third in scoring with 10 points.
Despite the loss, the Lady Rattlers will head into the playoffs for the second straight year and the fourth time in the last five seasons.
With the introduction of the divisional split for basketball, San Marcos will enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the Division II bracket with Judson dropping to Division II as the No. 1 seed. Cibolo Steele will go up to the Division I bracket as the No. 1 seed along with East Central who comes in as the No. 2 seed.
San Marcos’ playoff opponent has yet to be determined due to a district tie between Laredo Alexander and Medina Valley in District 30 for the Division II seeding. The Lady Rattlers will be the winner of the game with a date and place to be determined.
