We’ve celebrated another memorable evening at the KZSM San Marcos Music Awards. You’ve read about the ceremony and the winners already. Here, I’d like to thank and congratulate all the people behind the scenes who craft the magic.
The awards are the brainchild of Justin James Bridges, a returning San Martian who last year sold us on his dream of “a way to recognize the artists and the work they put into their craft.” KZSM Board President Jeremy Garrett and Secretary Kathy Nelson joined Justin to plan and put on the event, and our dedicated, overworked Station Manager Rob Roark held it all together.
We’re also grateful to our sponsors, who offered the goods, services and cash donations that made the evening special: The Price Center, Gumby’s Pizza, Insomnia Cookies, Twin Liquors, Big Manz Kitchen, What’s on Your Mind Design, Listen San Marcos, Jams Music, Miracle Leaf, Kitt Massage, Billy McNabb Attorney at Law, XI Media, Shewolfvee Media and 003 Productions.
Most of their contributions, along with the proceeds from ticket and tee shirt sales and Awards memberships, go towards the expenses of the event. The amount remaining will sustain about a month of our 24/7 community programming.
As you probably already know, KZSM is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, staffed by volunteers. In addition to event proceeds, we are funded by grants and donations. We are fortunate to have received grants from the Burdine-Johnson foundation and the San Marcos Arts Commission. Both the city and county have provided generous support with federal ARPA funds, but those are almost depleted.
