TXST SOFTBALL
The Bobcats wrapped up their first tournament of the weekend, finishing with a record of 2-2 with wins over San Diego and Lipscomb along with losses to Arkansas and Bradley.
TEXAS STATE WINS FIRST GAME OVER SAN DIEGO
Texas State won their first game of the season, defeating the San Diego Toreros 2-1.
“I don’t think we’re even close to [what we can become] offensively,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “So to still be able to pull out a win tells me that we’re gonna be able to become a great team when this is all said and done. We just gotta get in our groove and find it.”
The Bobcats were powered by their pitching rotation from junior Emma Strood, a transfer from LSU, and sophomore Madison Azua.
Strood earned her first win of the season, throwing five innings and allowing five hits, one earned run and striking out three bawtters.
“It means a lot,” Strood said. “I’m glad that we came back from the Arkansas [loss] because it was a close game. So I’m glad we were able to get our first win of the season. I’m glad we had Madi behind me to help close it out.”
Texas State capitalized on an RBI double from junior catcher Megan Kelnar. Kelnar later scored on a San Diego error.
Sophomore pitcher Madison Azua earned her first save of the season.
TEXAS STATE SHUTS OUT LIPSCOMB
Texas State won their second game of the season, beating the Lipscomb Bison 3-0.

Azua earned the start for the Bobcats, pitching through six innings and allowing just three hits, no earned runs and striking out seven batters to earn the win.
Senior pitcher Presley Glende earned the save in the top of the seventh.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the first inning, taking advantage of a Lipscomb error before junior designated hitter Karmyn Bass hit a sac fly to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
Bass later hit a RBI triple in the third inning, extending the lead to 3-0.
TEXAS STATE FALLS TO BRADLEY
The Bobcat offense struggled to get off the ground, falling to the Bradley Braves 7-3.
“We can’t [have] one hit through five innings against a team in your fourth game of the weekend,” Woodard said. “Our pitching is going to keep us in the ball game, and that’s not fair to them. We have to do a better job at the plate.”
The Bobcats found themselves down 4-0 to Bradley before Texas State could generate their offense in the sixth inning.
Junior outfielder Keely Williams hit an RBI single into center field before a bases loaded walk added another run for the Bobcats.
Bradley pushed their lead to 7-2 before Texas State added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Braves closed the door on the comeback to seal the 7-3 win.
