SMHS BOYS BASKETBALL
San Marcos fell in the final game of the regular season, falling to the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars 67-61.
The loss drops the Rattlers overall record to 1718 overall and their district record to 3-9.
It was an up and down season for San Marcos, which saw the Rattlers play many thrilling games throughout the season.
In non-district play, San Marcos took home third-place at the Austin High Tournament and 2nd-place at the Hays Christmas Tournament. The Rattlers also earned wins over Dripping Springs, Hays and Buda Johnson to earn bragging rights as the best team in Hays County.
The rough and tumble nature of District 29 took its toll on the Rattlers but not before San Marcos caused a little bit of chaos right before the end of the season.
In the final home game of the season, the Rattlers pulled off their biggest win of the season, defeating the then No. 21 stateranked Cibolo Steele Knights 74-67. The loss forced Steele to share the district title in a threeway tie with East Central and Converse Judson while Schertz Clemens was one-game behind.
Graduating a heavy senior class, the Rattlers will look to bounce back and compete for the playoffs once more with a brand new group.
