The San Marcos Art Center is hosting their third annual Texas State University showcase throughout the month of March, which will include a wide variety of works from students, alumni, faculty and staff. The San Marcos Art League presents the show “Green Hills Rising. A Texas State University community exhibition” to showcase their mission to create connections between artists and their community. This year the theme is “Green Hills Rising,” drawn from the beloved “O Alma Mater” and emphasizes the lifelong connections that Bobcats have to both Texas State and to San Marcos. Entry is open to all Texas State University Students, Staff, Faculty, Retirees and Alumni. The mission of the San Marcos Art League is to encourage, foster, promote and nurture the arts in SMTX. Over the past three years the San Marcos Art League has used their mission statement to create a greater connection with the TXST artist community. This exhibition is the next step in the effort to bridge the gap between the TXST artist community and the greater San Marcos artist community as a whole.
“We are establishing relationships with these emerging artists on their paths to graduation in the hopes that more artists will see San Marcos as a place to stay and continue to grow the art community alongside us,” said original showcase coordinator Karly Schlievert.
This year alumni, staff, and faculty are encouraged to apply as well, further emphasizing the connection between the San Marcos arts community and TXST.
Submissions are due Feb. 28 and can be found on the Art Center’s website at sanmarcosartcenter. com/txst-exhibition. The showcase will be open for viewing throughout the month of March at the San Marcos Art Center, located at 117 N Guadalupe Street Suite 101 in Downtown San Marcos. There will be an artist reception Friday March 7 that is open to the public. Gallery hours and information can be found at sanmarcosartcenter.com.
