Juarez takes second at UIL State Wrestling Tournament

SMHS WRESTLING

Sophomore Mila Juarez placed 2nd at the UIL State Wrestling Tournament, taking home the silver medal in the 120-lb weight class.

It was a successful season for Juarez who captured the 6A Region IV title to book her ticket into the state tournament.

In Juarez’s first match of the tournament, the sophomore made the pin against Geneva Provence, of Arlington Martin, and earned the win to advance into the next round.

Juarez then faced Emily Melhem, of Katy Taylor, who was a state medalist last year.

Undeterred, Juarez defeated Melhem, winning 6-1 to secure her place in the semifinals of the winners bracket.

The next day, Juarez won her semifinal round to advance to the championship final.

Juarez faced Lucy Clarno of Dripping Springs in the final for the gold medal.

Juarez fell in the championship round, falling 11-5 by decision but secured the silver medal.
