Texas State started the 2025 season on the right foot, sweeping the Binghamton Bearcats in a three-game series.

The Bobcats and Head Coach Steven Trout are 3-0 for the season, which marks the third consecutive year Texas State has started the season off with a three-game sweep. “It’s huge. You have won every game, right?,” Trout said. “When you look up in May, and you’re trying to build a resume for the postseason tournament, sometimes a Sunday game in February is the one that leaves you out. You have to find a way to go to and sweep a team where you can and go win the series. Those Sundays are really important and anytime you get off to a 3-0 start it is as good as it gets.”

GAME 1: BOBCATS TAKE SEASON OPENER

Texas State won their first game of the season, beating the Bearcats 4-1.

The Bobcats went up 2-0 on Binghamton taking advantage of a fielder’s choice by senior designated hitter Austin Eaton then an RBI single by sophomore Ryne Farber.

Texas State later added two more runs in the seventh inning on a Bearcat balk before Farber connected with another RBI single.

Junior relief pitcher Bryson Dudley earned the win while junior closer Carson Laws earned the save.

GAME 2: 6TH INNING RALLY SEALS SERIES WIN FOR BOBCATS

Texas State rallied for a three-run sixth inning after trailing 6-5 to seal a 8-7 win over the Bearcats to seal the series win.

The Bobcats trailed 2-0 after the end of the first inning but scored five unanswered runs to go up 5-2.

Binghamton responded by hitting a grand slam and retaking the lead at 6-5.

Texas State tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI fielder’s choice by sophomore center fielder Ethan Farris. The Bobcats later took the lead on a sacrifice fly by junior first baseman Coy DeFury at 7-6.

Texas State ended the at-bat with a bases loaded walk to extend their lead 8-6.

The Bearcats tacked on a run in the ninth inning but were unable to complete the comeback as the Bobcats won 8-7.

Junior relief pitcher Colby Diaz earned the win for the Bobcats while Laws got his second save of the season.

Game 3: Bobcats complete the sweep over Binghamton Texas State completed the sweep of Binghamton, beating the Bearcats 7-4 to win the third game of the three-game series.

After taking the lead 1-0, the Bobcats used excellent two-out hitting for a six-run fourth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

“On a day like today, when the wind’s blown in, [you] take nothing for granted,” Trout said. “The biggest thing is we want to be relentless with the offense. When we had the opportunity to finish the game or keep them going, that’s what we did. We have to get better after the inning by scoring more runs and not being complacent with seven runs. But they did a good job of piecing up some good at bats when it matters most.”

Binghamton rallied with four unanswered runs and couldn’t complete the comeback. Farris led the team in batting going 3-4 with three RBIs, including hitting a RBI-triple in the fourth.

“I was ready for a heater,” Farris said “He gave me a heater, and I was just trying to hit it right back at him and ended up going pretty well.”

Eaton, who played designated hitter on Friday and Saturday, earned his first win of the season.

THIS WEEK

Texas State will go on the road for the first time, playing Oklahoma State at Globe Field before coming home for a three-game series against the Illinois Fighting’ Illini.
