The Bobcats split their Sunday doubleheader with Illinois, winning Game 1 5-2 then losing Game 2 7-4.
The Bobcats drop the overall series to Illinois as Texas State’s overall record goes to 5-2.
“I thought [we did] a really good job game one coming out,” Trout said. “We wanted to be the aggressor in the [batter’s] box.
We’ve been a little tentative with guys, still trying to find the roles. a little bit. … Even though we only scored five runs and thought our bats were a lot better, we loaded the bases up there the first two innings and more importantly just found a way to win.”
Junior pitcher Bryson Dudley earned his third win of the season while striking out four batters. Seniors Austin Eaton and Austin Munguia both added home runs.
In the second game, Eaton took the loss for the Bobcats despite Texas State’s rally in the seventh inning.
Texas State will be on the road Tuesday night against No. 1 Texas A&M.
