Bobcats split Sunday double header

TXST SOFTBALL

Texas State split their doubleheader against both Southern Illinois and Kansas, beating the Salukis 2-1 before falling to the Jayhawks 4-2.

The Bobcats improved their overall record to 9-3.

I thought we competed well,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “Nothing was really going for us real well. I thought we did a good job of keeping ourselves in two ball games and obviously Emma [Strood] threw the heck out of [ the ball] that helped us. The start to [Kansas game] did not feel good at all so I thought we did a good job of just competing through seven innings.”

In the win against Southern Illinois, starting pitcher Emma Strood threw 14 strikeouts in a complete game win. Junior Aiyana Coleman added a solo home run and Junior Megan Kelnar hit a RBI double for the Bobcats.

Against Kansas, the Bobcats struggled with fielding errors, allowing the Jayhawks to score two unearned runs. An RBI single from junior Karmyn Bass and an RBI double from freshman Erin Peterson gave the Bobcats their two runs for the game.

Texas State will be on the road for the first time this season, making the trip to College Station for the Texas A&M tournament. The Bobcats first game will be against the Aggies Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
