TXST MEN’S BASKETBALL

In a fierce battle with the Troy Trojans, Texas State was unable to come away with the win, losing 74-69.

The loss drops Texas State and Head Coach Terrence Johnson’s overall record to 15-15 and their conference record to 8-9.

“[It’s no secret] we played a tough team tonight,” Johnson said. “[Troy] is well coached. It’s a reason why they’re at the top of this league and have a chance to finish it out. We came up a little bit short tonight, but we got a great opportunity on Friday to kind of bounce back and still get some momentum going into the conference tournament.”

A factor in Texas State’s loss to Troy came on the glass with the Trojans outrebounding the Bobcats 41-33.

“We did not make the necessary adjustments,” Johnson said. “The ability to hit and go get with the level of physicality on the glass.

“We went into [the game] probably not with the right mindset. I thought at times we didn’t set the tone early on in the game, and that’s important.”

The Bobcats offense also went cold from the field, making only one field goal in the final ten minutes of the game.

Despite the offensive performance in the second half, senior forward Tylan Pope finished with a game high 25 points while junior guard Mark Drone was second in scoring with nine points. Senior forward Tyrel Morgan led the team in rebounding with eight.

Texas State will be back on the court Friday night in the Bobcats final home game of the season against James Madison. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
