Rotary club event raised money for foster students

The San Marcos Rotary Club hosted the annual Casino Night event on Friday night.

With more than 100 people in attendance, the casino table games were busy and full of excitement.

The proceeds of the event largely went to the Beth and Kelly Damphousse Foster Educational Support Endowment. The scholarship is given to individuals who were in the Texas Foster Care System who demonstrate a financial need and are in good academic standing. Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse and his wife Beth were on hand for the event. Damphousse was adopted as a child and he has spoken about his mother becoming a “de facto social worker” who took in children in need because there was no system in place in the small town in which he was raised in Canada.

A new flight simulator based on the C-47 That’s All Brother was built by Eric Hagan and was available to test out during the event.

In addition to the event raising funds, a diamond ring was also raffled off. Michael and Alicia Melton, who own Power Haus, won the diamond ring raffle.

Overall, Rotary Club President Jessica Cousineau was thrilled with the event.

“This has been a great Rotary event. We are excited to have it once again this year, and it benefits such a great cause,” she said.
