Texas Caldo Cookoff benefits local DJ

The Texas Caldo Cookoff, “Operation for a Cure,” occurred on March 1 on the Hays County Courthouse lawn. There were eight food vendors, 80 vendors (nonfood) and 20 competitors for the cookoff, according to Richard Anzaldua, Hays County Cook-off Association event coordinator. There was music by DJ Gabriel Vasquez and Lupe & Tommy Vasquez. The cookoff benefited Eluterio Zuniga, aka DR Electro. Cadets from the Gary Job Corps Corrections vocation assisted with the food judging, selling the food sampling packets, and assisted as needed.

Gary Job Corps cadets had a busy weekend. Under the supervision of Captain Heather Escalante, Captain Johnson and Major Troy Oldbury, GJC cadets also assisted with weekend activities at the Mardi Gras Parade San Marcos aiding traffic control, and Cadets from the Security Program were in New Braunfels at the Comal County Fair.
