It’s often said that it takes a village to nurture the well-being of a child and build a thriving community. In San Marcos, the Captain Thomas Moore Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution demonstrates how even the smallest efforts can drive transformative change.

Founded in 1923 by Renick Frazier Ansell, the chapter has stood as a beacon of service and patriotism for over a century. Remaining steadfast in their mission to honor the legacy of those who fought for American independence, the chapter continues to uphold the core principles of NSDAR: historical preservation, education and patriotism.

The chapter’s dedication is evident in their impactful initiatives. Members honor our veterans by placing wreaths on their graves, fund food pantries for schools and veterans, and support local schools through serving and donations. Their efforts also extend to participating in patriotic events and preserving local history by maintaining the El Camino Real DAR markers. These acts of service reflect their unwavering commitment to bettering the community and honoring the past.

Recently, the Captain Thomas Moore Chapter addressed the pressing issue of decreasing literacy rates while also celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Through an America 250! grant, they donated $500 to the San Marcos Public Library to fund a collection of patriotic books. This special collection aims to bring the stories of patriot ancestors to life for future generations.

These books were showcased during a celebration held on February 25, by the Captain Thomas Moore Chapter of NSDAR. With a legacy rooted in patriotism and service, the Captain Thomas Moore Chapter continues to inspire and ignite change in San Marcos, one initiative at a time.
