Step Into History: 50th annual Heritage Home Tour to come in May

HERITAGE ASSOCIATION OF SAN MARCOS

The Heritage Association of San Marcos proudly presents the Golden Legacy Tour of Homes, a one-day-only event on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This milestone Home Tour offers a rare glimpse inside seven historic homes plus the extraordinary Crookwood Gardens, and celebrates the 50th anniversary of H.A.S.M.

“The Heritage Association was created to improve the environment, create community-oriented projects and focus on the unique history of our town,” HASM President Renee Graham said. “Touring historic homes in the Spring is a tradition that began 50 years ago. … Supporting this Golden Legacy Tour of Homes involves preserving tradition, promoting community engagement, supporting local businesses and tourism, and recognizing homeowners for restoring historic homes and contributing to the maintenance of historic districts.”

This year’s tour is a true celebration of history, architecture, art and storytelling, with homes showcasing distinct architectural styles and unique histories.

“This is our biggest and best tour yet,” 2025 Home Tour Chair Shannon James said. “The homes and Crookwood Gardens are stunning, and we can’t wait to share their stories with visitors. It’s a must-see event for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the art and charm of San Marcos.”

The tour begins in Veramendi Plaza at the historic Charles S. Cock House Museum, located at 400 East Hopkins Street. That is where attendees can purchase tickets (or show their online ticket confirmations) to receive the tour map and booklet. They can stroll through the historic buildings in the plaza, view special 50th anniversary displays and enjoy a delicious bake sale starting at 9 a.m.

Another highlight of the day at this historic Cock House will be author and local preservation advocate Rodney Van Oudekerke signing copies of “Historic San Marcos: An Illustrated History.” There is a limited supply of this renowned book that contains a wonderful pictorial history of our historic city.

Tickets for the Home Tour are available online now in advance for $25 per person ($30 day-of the tour) at HeritageSanMarcos.org. All proceeds support HASMs 50-year legacy of preserving historic structures and districts in San Marcos, ensuring their character and stories endure for generations.

Articles about each historic property on the tour will be featured in the San Marcos Daily Record in the coming weeks leading up to the tour. Follow HASM on social media for sneak peeks of the featured homes in the coming weeks: Facebook.com/heritagesanmarcos.
