Hays PRC to open Field Office, host town halls

HAYS COUNTY PET RESOURCE, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH CENTER

The Hays County Pet Resource, Education and Research Center will open a field office at the Hays County Courthouse on March 31. This field office, located on the third floor adjacent to court chambers, will provide a working space for current Pet Resource Center programs including Hays County Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender and the Lost and Found Pet Program.

Hays County residents will be able to talk to Pet Resource Center staff for pet-related assistance, answer questions about the Pet Resource Center project, offer thoughts and feedback on animal services needs in the County and learn more ways to get involved helping people and pets. Dates and times staff and volunteers will be available at the field office will be posted on the Hays County Pet Resource Center’s Facebook page. Please note the field office is not an animal shelter and cannot intake or house pets.

“I am pleased to welcome the Hays County Pet Resource Center to their new offices and would like to acknowledge the great work they have done and will do for Hay County,” Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said. “For too long, animal services have been reactive and playing catch up to our growth and the needs of our community. We have finally turned the corner and are taking proactive measures to not only build a more adequate shelter but also utilize modern programs to reduce the need for more kennels.”

Residents can also reach the Hays County Pet Resource at the new [email protected] email address starting March 31 as well.

Additionally, town halls will be held in the coming weeks including in the Kyle, Dripping Springs and Wimberley areas to learn more about and give feedback on the final locations under consideration for the new Pet Resource Center, facility elements, see an artistic rendering representing the Pet Resource Center and learn more about proposed programs and services.

The Hays County Pet Resource Center will include a new animal shelter, community programs and increased access to services to help keep people and pets together.

Hays County Pet Resource Center programs provided support and assistance to over 1,000 pet families in 2024.
