Hays County Educators Visit the Gary Job Corps Center

Nicole Sanchez, Gary Job Corps Outreach/Admissions and Career Transition Services Director, sponsored “A Day in the Life of a Job Corps Student.” She led the visitors through the everyday activities. Visitors were the Hays CISD Attendance Intervention Specialist, San Marcos CISD District Student Attendance Case Manager, Senior Attendance Associate, AWARE Mental Health Counselor, SEL Counselor, Hays County Communities in Schools Manager, Hays County Justice of the Peace Pct 2, Place 2 and the Hays CISD Impact Center Principal. In total, 21 educators became a little more informed on the operation at the Gary Job Corps Center. Starting the visit at the Administration Bldg, followed by a trip to the Security Building to ensure that no unauthorized items were brought on the Center, the Medical Office Administration, Transportation and Communication Union Class, Corrections Cadet training, Test of Adult Basic Education Class, lunch, and the day concluded by visiting two dormitories. Gary Job Corps is a federally funded residential/non-residential vocational and academic training for the Department of Labor. The Gary Center trains in over 19 vocations: Advanced Manufacturing, Construction, Health Care, Finance and Business, Homeland Security, Transportation, and Advanced Training in addition to high school diploma programs, and driver license training over the 775 acre campus.
