Learn about the Earth and love its creatures
Go get a new best friend at PetSmart’s adoption event occurring today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., located at 1050 McKinley Place Drive. The Facebook post said they will have a “variety of adorable and adoptable puppies and dogs ready to find their forever homes.” Go save a life and make yours much better in the process!
And this weekend, there are more Earth Day celebrations! From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, there will be an Earth Stewardship Community Fair hosted by the Mermaid Society. There will be many learning opportunities for the whole family! Learn how to grow your very own Monarch Butterfly Garden from the experts at the Discovery Center and take home milkweed seeds to get started. Learn about the sunflower, its ecological benefits and native connections. Discover why Rain Gardens are so impactful and how to create one. And create some A.R.R.R.T. (Reuse, Recycle, Reimagine for Texas) made from recycled materials that can be worn for the upcoming Mermaid Parade.

Star Party at Blue Hole
The stars are aligning in a beautiful way this Saturday with Wimberley Parks & Recreation’s bi-annual Star Party at Blue Hole Regional Park. This will be an evening of stargazing, live music and fun activities for the whole family. Co-sponsored by the Wimberley Dark Sky Committee and the Texas State Astronomy Club, this evening event will include a telescope workshop at 5:45 p.m., live music starting at 6:45 p.m., telescope viewing at 8:30 p.m. and a Dark Sky tour at 9 p.m. On the swim lawn, there will be a mothing activity, and while I’m not exactly sure what that is, if it has anything to do with moths, then sign me up. Our neighboring towns, Wimberley and Woodcreek, have been designated as Dark Sky communities since 2018. This means that the towns have made long-term commitments to building and lighting the area to protect migrating birds and the pristine night sky. To learn more, visit darksky.org/places/wimberley-valley-texas-dark-sky-community and happy stargazing!

Fun for all and a farewell to Alchemy Records
Support San Marcos this Saturday by attending the 48th annual Just for Fun parade! All are welcome to watch or walk, dance, jump and jive. The parade lines up at 205 CM Allen at 10 a.m., and the march begins at 11 a.m. A Día del Niño celebration will also be occurring on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the square, so be sure to pop by that afterwards if you’ve got kids as there will be lots of fun activities for them to enjoy. Also on Saturday, visit Alchemy Records, it will be the last day you can pick up a record since the store is taking a hiatus. There will be a 25% off sale as well as a concert that starts at 8 p.m. This is a true loss for the community so go show your support!
