Coming off a tough loss to the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns, Texas State bounced back to run-rule the Tarleton Texans 13-3 in their second straight midweek game on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats and Head Coach Steven Trout improve their record to 2021 as the team jumps back into conference play.

It was important we talked about it,” Trout said. “It was a big emotional night last night that we wanted to come away with [the win], but we had to get to the next moment, put the spikes and the uniform on. You have to come out and compete.”

“I thought our offense did a phenomenal job coming out with really good approaches. Middle of the field, line drives, a lot of hits and a lot of runs. Jackson Mayo was good as a starter so really good see that. But just really proud of how we came out and just took the game early and ran away with it.”

The Bobcats struck first in the top of the first inning when junior catcher Theo Kummer hit a sacrifice fly to score Chase Mora at third. In the same at-bat, freshman Zachary Gingrich hit an RBI sin- gle, scoring junior Coy DeFury to extend the lead. Gingrich was later brought home on an RBI single from Samson Pugh, putting the Bobcats up 3-0.

The Bobcats did more damage in the second inning. Ryne Farber scored the first run in the inning, hitting a sacrifice fly to score freshman Dawson Park at third. Later in the at-bat, Kummer connected with a two-run RBI single with the bases loaded, extending the lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Texas State struck again. After Mora scored on a passed ball, junior Cole Tabor hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring Kummer at third. Later, Park hit an RBI single into right field, putting the Bobcats up 9-0.

Tarleton came back in the fifth inning, scoring three runs and cutting the Bobcat lead down to 9-3.

However, the Bobcats scored four unanswered runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before pitcher Colby Diaz closed out the game in the top of the seventh inning to seal the 13-3 win.

Pitcher Jackson Mayo earned his first win of the season, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing just two hits, no earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
