This Saturday, May 3, KZSM 104.1 and KZSM.org will share our voices at the third annual American Lung Associations 2025 Fight for Air Climb/Lung Force Walk, once again being held on the TXST campus in the UFCU Bobcat Stadium. Starting at 8 a.m., participants walk or climb the 1,200 steps of the bleachers, lending their breath to the fight against lung disease. According to the organizers, “the event is designed for every type of climber, from beginners to competitive climbers, along with first responders and firefighters! How you climb is up to you: race to the top or take it at your own speed — every climber is welcome.”
Registration is open for teams and for individuals in a range of categories, beginning at 7 a.m. the day of the event or in advance online at action. lung.org/site/TR?fr_id=27431&pg=entry. Awards will be given for best male and female climber, for best climber in each age group and for fundraising. The minimum fundraising requirement is $100 per person. Climbers have until event day to raise and/or donate the amount. Ninety cents of every dollar raised by the American Lung Association goes directly to education, research and advocacy for healthy lungs and healthy air. “When you do the climb,” the Association reminds us, “you support people with lung disease who are fighting for every breath.”
KZSM program host Carole Coburn will emcee the event, as she has every year. She hosted our “Friday Night with Care” for seven years before moving on to host and produce “Creatives Cornerstone” on Austin Public Access TV. Her own experience of COPD and asthma inspire her tireless support of the work of the American Lung Association.
