HERITAGE ASSOCIATION OF SAN MARCOS
With a little less than one to go, now is the time to purchase your tickets for the highly anticipated Golden Legacy Tour of Homes, taking place Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the Heritage Association of San Marcos, this special 50th anniversary tour includes seven beautifully restored historic homes plus the breathtaking Crookwood Gardens, all located within one of Texas’ most charming and well-preserved historic districts.
While the interior of the renowned Crookwood residence will not be open this year, guests will be treated to a leisurely stroll through its lush, manicured gardens. Built in 1908 by I.W. Wood, this elegant Colonial mansion — once home to the United States Ambassador to Australia William B. Crook — has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living and Texas Monthly. The beautifully landscaped grounds include a sparkling pool, an all-glass greenhouse, and “the Barn,” a stylish guest house tucked among flowering shrubs and shaded paths.
As a refreshing bonus, visitors can enjoy a complimentary beverage from the Lemonade Stand, generously hosted by The Damron Group of Realtors — the perfect way to cool off in this picture-perfect setting.
The tour begins at the Charles S. Cock House Museum, located at 400 East Hopkins Street, in Veramendi Plaza. There, guests can pick up tickets, enjoy a bake sale beginning at 9 a.m. and explore a special 50th anniversary display curated by local historian Linda Coker, highlighting the Heritage Association’s five decades of preservation efforts.
In addition, historian and author Rodney van Oudekerke will be on-site at the Cock House signing a limited supply of his acclaimed book “Historic San Marcos: An Illustrated History” as well as a stunning collection of photos and stories about the city’s past.
Tickets are available online now for $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the tour at HeritageSan-Marcos.org.
Don’t miss this one-dayonly celebration of San Marcos history, heritage and homegrown beauty. Experience the stories, architecture and artistry that make our city so special. Local artists will be featured at four properties with works on display and demonstrations.
