Three former Bobcat football players were able to find new homes after being signed as undrafted free agents while two former players were given invites.

No Bobcat football players were taken in this year’s NFL draft, extending a ten-year drought with David Mayo becoming the last player to be drafted in 2015.

Offensive lineman Nash Jones signed with the Los Angeles Chargers following the NFL Draft. Jones started all 12 games for the Bobcats last season at left guard after missing the majority of the 2023 season with a broken leg. Jones is most notable for catching the lateral pass for a touchdown from quarterback T.J. Finley in the Bobcats’ First Responder Bowl win over Rice.

Also being signed from Texas State is defensive back Jordan Polk, signing with the New England Patriots. A transfer from East Texas A&M, Polk started all 13 games for the Bobcats in the 2024 season, leading the team in both total tackles with 68 and solo tackles with 35. Polk also had two sacks, two pass deflections, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Running back Deion Hankins will have an opportunity to play at the professional level, signing as a UDFA with the Chicago Bears. Hankins rushed for 272 yards and two touchdowns for the Bobcats last season. Against Louisiana Monroe, Hankins rushed for 117 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown in the Bobcats 38-17 win over the Warhawks.

Despite not signing, wide receiver Joey Hobert was given an invited rookie mini camp from the Seattle Seahawks. Hobert led the team in catches with 70 for 680 yards and eight touchdowns. Hobert wraps up his career at Texas State finishing in the top ten in career receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

Quarterback Jordan McCloud was also given a rookie mini camp invite by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his lone season with Texas State, Mc-Cloud passed for 3,227 yards and 30 touchdowns for the Bobcats. McCloud is the first Bobcat in program history to pass for 30 touchdowns in a single season.
