SAN MARCOS POLICE DEPARTMENT
There was a robbery at a San Marcos gas station on Saturday in which the suspects used a sledgehammer to bust the large glass panel on the front facade of the building then stole the cash cassette from an ATM machine, according to an official with the city of San Marcos. Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, SMPD officers responded to a theft in progress at the 7-Eleven, located at 1103 TX-80.
“A caller was reporting two men in a white four door pick-up truck were attempting to steal an ATM from inside, the city stated. “When police arrived, the suspects were gone. On scene, a large yellow sledgehammer was found, witnesses said it was used to break the store’s windows. The truck used a hook and tow cable to pull a small door off the ATM machine, through which they gained access to the cash cassette, loaded it in the truck’s bed, and fled.”
The city stated that investigators are currently working to identify the two male suspects.
The vehicle used was a white 2019 Chevrolet, which was reported as stolen out of Dallas and was located abandoned at the Clarewood Apartments.
The city is asking that anyone who saw anything at either the 7-Eleven or the Clarewood Apartments call the police.
