First Tuesday SMTX to present ‘Get Back Up: The Blue October Story’

First Tuesday SMTX to present ‘Get Back Up: The Blue October Story’
Submitted film poster

Even though it’s May, this Tuesday will commemorate Blue October with “Get Back Up: The Blue October Story” as part of the First Tuesday SMTX film series. The screening will feature a post-film Q&A with Director Norry Niven and Avery Armstrong, Music Historian, Center for Texas Music History at TXST.

The documentary will chronicle the remarkable career for San Marcos’s own Blue October. From the synopsis: “It’s been a remarkable career for San Marcos’s Blue October, but things certainly haven’t always been easy. Struggles with substance abuse, treatment and recovery have all been well-documented in their songs. “Get Back Up” takes an unwavering look at the havoc that impacted lead singer/songwriter Justin Furstenfeld’s life and everyone around him. A redemptive story that reminds us there is a path to rebuilding everything you’ve lost.”

Join First Tuesday SMTX May 6 as the organization celebrates their two-year anniversary with the screening of this film.

The event will be held at the Price Center, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. Pizza from Pie Society and beer from Middleton Brewery will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. The screening will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 and available online at firsttuesdaysmtx. com.

The First Tuesday SMTX Film Series aims to bring top independent films to the big screen in San Marcos on the first Tuesday of every month. These screenings are free and open to the public. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at firsttuesdaysmtx. com.
