Man killed after being struck by two vehicles, one vehicle fled scene

SAN MARCOS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The San Marcos Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred late Saturday night, May 3, 2025, in the 4200 block of State Highway 123. This marks the second traffic fatality in San Marcos this year.

At approximately 10:46 p.m., officers responded to a report of a collision in- volving a pedestrian in the southbound lanes of SH 123, just south of Skylark Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 33-yearold Michael Lamar Rucker of Jonesboro, Georgia deceased in the roadway.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was struck by two separate vehicles. The vehicle involved in the initial impact fled the area before officers arrived. A second vehicle subsequently hit the pedestrian, and the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

Investigators are working to locate the initial vehicle involved in the collision and identify the driver. Evidence recovered at the scene includes right-side mirror parts from a white pickup truck, consistent with an early 2000s Ford. The mirror cap features a custom-painted rose design.

“We are working diligently to identify the driver who left the scene,” Sgt. Tony Scott, with the Collision Investigation Team said. “We are examining all physical evidence with assistance from the DPS Crime Lab. We’re also working to locate any potential surveillance or dash cam video.”

SMPD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has video from that area Saturday night, or has information about the suspect vehicle to contact the Sgt. Scott at (512) 753-2114. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Hays County Crime Stoppers.

“We want to bring closure to the victim’s family,” Scott said. “If anyone saw anything, no matter how small, please come forward.”
