HAYS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Deputies from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Belterra Springs apartments, located in Hays County at 761 Trinity Hills Drive in Austin, regarding an unresponsive 50 year old male on Dec. 31, 2024. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the HCSO Criminal Investigations Division determined that the death was related to the use of fentanyl.

The case was subsequently transferred to the HCSO Repeat Offender Program Unit, which launched a full investigation. Through the ROP Unit’s efforts, the suspected fentanyl distributor was identified as Alan Steve Rodriguez, a 28-year-old resident of Kyle.
A parallel narcotics investigation into Rodriguez led to the seizure of fentanyl, cocaine, THC, marijuana and multiple firearms. On March 26, 2025, Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Hays County Jail on the following charges:
• Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance CT I, first-degree felony
• Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance CT II, first-degree felony
• Possession of a Controlled Substance, second-degree felony
• Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon, second-degree felony
• Possession of Marijuana, class-B misdemeanor As a result of continued investigative efforts, on April 29, 2025, the ROP Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Murder, first-degree felony, in connection with the December 2024 overdose death.
Rodriguez remains in custody at the Hays County Jail on a total bond of $777,000, including $500,000 for the murder charge, along with a probation violation out of Travis County.
This case reflects the Hays County Sheriff’s Office’s continued commitment to holding drug dealers accountable for the devastating consequences of fentanyl distribution in the community.
