For the first time in 25 years, the Wimberley Texans are heading to the regional finals.

After dropping Game 1 on Thursday, the Texans rallied to win both Game 2 and Game 3 on Saturday to defeat the Sweeny Bulldogs, capturing the Regional Semifinal championship.

Wimberley improves their overall record to 227-1.

In Game 1 on Thursday, the Bobcats faced off with the Bulldogs in La Grange.

Wyatt Yeatter scored first for the Texans, hitting an RBI double to put Wimberley up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

Sweeny tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly before taking the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple.

The Texans tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning but to no avail, falling to Sweeny 2-1.

After the seniors walked for graduation on Friday, Wimberley returned to La Grange on Saturday, looking to stay in Game 2.

Wimberley struck the first blow in the bottom of the third inning as Yeatter hit an RBI double to put the Texans up 1-0.

Sweeny retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning. After scoring on an RBI single, the Bulldogs went ahead and scored on a wild pitch.

Unlike Game 1, the Texans had a response. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wimberley tied the game on a Sweeny fielding error before taking back the lead on an RBI double from Cody Stoever. Later in the same inning, the Texans scored twice on two Sweeny pitching errors, once on a balk and once on a passed ball.

At the end of the fifth inning, Wimberley led 5-2.

Sweeny was unable to complete the comeback as pitcher Ty Thames sat the Bulldogs in order to win Game 2 and force the decisive Game 3. Thames threw a complete game, allowing just three hits, two earned runs, one walk and striking out eight batters.

In the final game of the series, Wimberley scored first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a Sweeny balk to go up 1-0.

Later in the bottom of the third inning, Texans scored on a Sweeny error to extend their lead to 2-0. Wimberley again scored on another Sweeny error in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Texans up 3-0.

Throwing a complete game, Jayden Hall sealed Wimberley’s trip to the regional final, sitting the Bulldogs in order to put the Texans over at 3-0. Hall finished the game allowing five hits, no earned runs, one walk and striking out four batters.

Wimberley will play for their first regional title since 2000 where the Texans will face off against the South Texas powerhouse Sinton Pirates.

The Pirates enter the Regional final with a 287-1 overall record and are the champions of District 30.

Sinton swept Columbia in a three-game series for the Bi-District championship before defeating Zapata in three games to capture the Area Championship.

In the Regional Semifinals, the Pirates swept the Navarro Panthers, winning Game 2 14-13 in extra innings.

The three-game series for the Regional Title is set to take place at Northeast Sports Park in San Antonio. Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. with Game 2 scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will take place 30 minutes after the completion of Game 2.
