In the final home game of the regular season, Texas State dropped the rubber match, losing to the James Madison Dukes 3-1.

The loss drops the Bobcats overall record to 2629 and their conference record to 14-16.

“[We] threw the baseball really well,” Trout said. “[We just] really underperformed on offense.”

The Dukes took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring on an RBI single and a Bobcat throwing error.

Texas State made it a one-run game after senior Alan Shibley hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Dukes added their final run of the game on a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Trout addressed the offensive problems the Bobcats struggled with as the team will look to rebound in the conference tournament.

“Just getting too long, too big, [not taking advantage of ] RBI opportunities, situational hitting, really everything,” Trout said. “To be honest it’s just a pretty poor [performance] when you’re playing for your life to try to get a better seed.”

The loss on Saturday follows the Bobcats thrilling win on Friday.

With runners on first and second and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, junior first baseman Coy DeFury connected with a walkoff RBI single to win the game for the Bobcats 4-3.

Heading into the conference tournament, the Bobcats earned the seventh seed and will face the tenth seed Appalachian State in a single elimination game.

App State finished the regular season with a 2330 overall record and dropped their final conference series of the season to the Georgia State Panthers.

Both the Bobcats and the Mountaineers met early in the season for the conference opener with App State getting the three-game sweep over Texas State.

A win for Texas State moves the Bobcats in a showdown with Southern Miss in the double-elimination part of the conference tournament while an App State win advances the Mountaineers to face Coastal Carolina.

First pitch for Texas State-App State is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
