TXST Fine Arts and Communication focus of upcoming Rotary program

Sarah Maines and Virginia “Vee” Volpe speak to the Rotary Club of San Marcos on May 21 about Fine Arts and Communication at Texas State University. Maines will discuss programs in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, and Volpe will address the Friends organization that supports arts and communication at the University.

Professor Maines has been the Director of the TXST School of Theatre, Dance and Film since 2020. She specializes in theatrical lighting design and is the recipient of the National Partners in American Theatre Mentor Award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival as well as Presidential Distinction and College Achievement Awards in teaching and scholarly/ creative activity. Maines earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Production from the University of Florida. She also earned a Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from the University of California, San Diego.

Volpe retired in 2020 as a Managing Director at SS&C Technologies, leading a Relationship Management Team. She worked in the financial services industry beginning in 1996 and spent 17 years at Citigroup in various leadership roles, including client services, relationship management, sales and finance. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sri Lanka from 1992 to 1994. Maines has an M.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in Economics and Literature from Austin College. She is the President Elect of the Friends of Fine Arts and Communication for 2025-2027, and she is also active in San Marcos as a Greenbelt Alliance volunteer.

Rotary meets Wednesdays at noon at the VFW Hall, located at 1701 Hunter Road. Visitors are always welcome at meetings.
