MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Though a relative unknown at the start of the season outside of San Marcos, sophomore Jack Vasquez established himself as one of the best pitchers not only in the district but in the area.

The left-hander’s dominance on the mound is the reason Vasquez is the 2025 San Marcos Daily Record High School Male Athlete of the Year.

On the mound, Vasquez finished the season with an 8-2 overall record with a 0.74 ERA. Vasquez held opposing batters to just a .143 batting average, struck out 85 batters and had 19 pickoffs.

On the offensive side, Vasquez led the team in both hits (33) and RBIs (18) while maintaining a batting average of .440.

In the district opener against Buda Johnson, Vasquez threw a complete game, allowing just three hits, one earned run, five walks and striking out nine batters in the Rattlers 3-1 win over the Jaguars.

Vasquez followed up by throwing back to back no-hitters against both Schertz Clemens and East Central.

Vasquez helped lead the Rattlers to a second place finish in District 29 and their fourth consecutive playoff appearance.
