With temperatures expected to sneak up near triple digits this weekend, it’ll be hard to celebrate Memorial Day without being in the water. But that also means the river will be packed with people on what is traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year. If you want to stay away from that scene, there are plenty of other options around Hays County. Devil’s Backbone Tavern is hosting a Songwriter Showcase. The storied bar is owned by musician Robyn Ludwick, whose brothers Charlie and Bruce Robison made their own mark on the music scene. Her connections and style mean you always end up listening to someone who’s either going to be the next big thing or someone who should’ve already been one. Marshall Matheny and Addison Lea Thompson will play along with hosts Ben Foster and Clint Quinn on Saturday. The free show starts at 1 p.m.
