The Moon-McGehee Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas honors its 4th and 7th grade Texas History Essay Contest winners and its Republic of Texas Museum Art Contest winner at its May Meeting.
4th Grade Texas History Essay Winner
The Moon-McGehee 4th Grade Texas History Essay Winner, Mosi Fraserrand, presented his essay on Juana Navarro Alsbury, survivor of the Alamo, at the May chapter meeting. Fraserrand came with his teacher, Carol Fernandez from Hernandez Elementary School, and his family. A reception was held for him, and he was presented with his certificate and award from the chapter. Fraserrand also won the District VIII contest and will receive a certificate and award from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.


7th Grade Texas History Essay Winner The Moon-McGehee 7th Grade Texas History Essay Winner, Emma Patton, presented her essay on “Which Site Should be Regarded as the Birthplace of the Republic of Texas: West Columbia, Washington-on-the Brazos or San Jacinto?” at the May chapter meeting. Patton came with her teacher, Karen Wyatt from San Marcos Academy, and her family. A reception was held for her, and she was presented with her certificate and award from the chapter.
Republic of Texas Museum Art Contest Winner The Moon-McGehee Chapter recognized its winner of the Republic of Texas Museum Art Contest at its May Chapter meeting. Maya McConkey from Crockett Elementary School had artwork chosen to be submitted for the state contest put on by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Her artwork was titled, “Nighttime at the San Marcos Headwaters... Long Ago.” She came with her family, and a reception was held for her. She was presented with her certificate and award from the chapter.
