The Dunbar Heritage Association will commemorate Juneteenth by hosting a traditional celebration marking the occasion of the delayed announcement of the emancipation of enslaved persons in Texas.
This year’s Juneteenth celebration will include games for children and adults, music and an educational program.
In the spirit of embracing community and wellness, join DHA for the Juneteenth 5K Freedom Run/Walk on Saturday, June 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. Starting at the City Park Trails, 170 Charles Austin Dr., this course will take participants through the scenic park trails of San Marcos. This is a family-friendly event, so all participants are welcome. Event highlights include a free commemorative t-shirt for the first 100 participants as well as water stations along the route. DHA will also host other Juneteenth-related events throughout the month of June. Learn about Juneteenth history on June 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San Marcos Public Library. Join in a community celebration on June 19 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Dunbar Recreation Center. The Black Kings Award Ceremony will be held June 28 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. at the San Marcos Public Library.
