A 30-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday morning when she was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Aquarena Springs Dr. and Thorpe Ln.
San Marcos Police responded to a call around 12:38 a.m. Tuesday. San Marcos Emergency Medical Services and San Marcos Fire Department arrived on the scene where they found a female — later identified as Katherine Morgan — unresponsive, officials said.
The fire department and EMS attempted to deliver medical aid but she was soon determined to be beyond life-saving measures, the City of San Marcos said in a press release.
Witnesses stated that Morgan crossed Aquarena Spring Dr. but then turned around and walked into traffic. A silver 2009 Chevrolet driven by Michael Gorzik, 41, had a green light and had no time to react, witnesses said. Justice of the Peace JoAnne Prado responded and pronounced Morgan dead at approximately 2 a.m.
Gorzik showed no signs of intoxication or impairment, according to officers on scene. A preliminary investigation conducted by the San Marcos Police Collision Investigation Team showed that Gorzik was driving under the speed limit of 45 MPH.
No criminal or traffic charges are expected to be filed in the incident, officials said. This is the fifth traffic fatality in San Marcos this year.
