Woodard and staff reload to capture regular season title despite losing half of starting roster

COACH OF THE YEAR

A year after leading the Bobcats to one of their best seasons in program history, Head Coach Ricci Woodard and her staff faced a tough task of trying to rebuild a team that lost over half of their starting roster.

The season ended with the Bobcats bringing home the program’s first regular season title since 2018 which is why Woodard is our Collegiate Coach of the Year.

Coming into the 2025 season, the Bobcats returned just three starters from last year’s team in senior Ciara Trahan, junior Karmyn Bass and junior Megan Kelnar.

Filled with a roster full of both freshman and transfers who played with minimal starting experience, the Bobcats started the season with a competitive loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks who are currently playing the Super Regionals.

Texas State continued to stack up wins in non-conference play before turning their attention to conference play.

The pitching duo of sophomore Madison Azua and junior Emma Strood pushed the Bobcats on defense while the offense led by junior Aiyana Coleman pushed Texas State to atop the Sun Belt Conference standings.

In the final series of the regular season, Texas State went on the road to Louisiana Monroe with the regular season title on the line. Despite the Warhawks being undefeated at home, the Bobcats swept ULM in a three-game series to claim the regular season title outright.

With the Bobcats graduating just two seniors from this year’s team, Texas State will look to not only reclaim the regular season title but also a return trip back to the NCAA Tournament.

HONORABLE MENTION SEAN HUIET

Led the team to a Sun Belt Conference tournament title where the Bobcats ran the gauntlet and didn’t drop a single set. Huiet also led the team to their second straight NCAA tournament appearance.

G.J. KINNE

Became the first football coach since Jim Wacker to have back to back seasons of having eight or more wins. Kinne also led the Bobcats to their first ever win over UTSA, first win over North Texas since 1991 and first ever road wins against both South Alabama and Troy.

JOHN FRAZIER

Made history as both the Men’s and Women’s Track teams won the Sun Belt Outdoor Track conference titles. Frazier was also named both the Sun Belt Men’s and Women’s Track Coach of the Year.
