City, TxDOT to begin pavement improvements on Sessom Drive June 1

Beginning June 1, the city of San Marcos and the Texas Department of Transportation will complete pavement improvements on Sessom Drive. The project will enhance safety and driving conditions on the roadway between Alamo Street and University Drive.

Crews will mill and overlay the roadway with a high-friction pavement designed to improve skid resistance, especially during wet conditions, mitigating the risk of vehicle crashes. To minimize traffic impacts and disruptions, work will take place during nighttime hours. Temporary lane closures and minor delays may occur, but access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

The city was awarded a $678,691 grant through TxDOT’s Texas Highway Safety Improvement Program to support the work. The program aims to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads.

“Sessom Drive is a heavily traveled corridor, and this project is a key part of our efforts to modernize infrastructure and enhance safety,” San Marcos Assistant Director of Public Works Adam Rossing said. “We appreciate TxDOT’s support in helping us make meaningful improvements in our community.”

Work is expected to be complete June 12, weather permitting.
