Virginia Parker will discuss the mission and activities of the San Marcos River Foundation at the Rotary Club of San Marcos on May 28 at noon. Meetings are held at the VFW Hall, located at 1701 Hunter Road. Visitors are always welcome.
The nonprofit San Marcos River Foundation seeks to protect and preserve a clean, flowing and accessible San Marcos River through water and land conservation, advocacy and community engagement. SMRF focuses on protecting the flow from aquifer-fed springs, improving water quality and preserving the area’s beauty with parks and regular river clean-ups. Parker served as Vice President on the SMRF board before becoming its Executive Director. She holds a degree from Texas A&M in biomedical science and began her environmental career volunteering with Bat Conservation International at Bracken Cave.
