HOFV BBQ Gala raises $18,000 to support Texas Veterans’ education

Hats Off For Veterans, a Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting military veterans, hosted its 20th annual Operation: Hats Off For Veterans BBQ gala in April at Texas Old Town in Kyle. The event raised $18,000 to fund scholarships and professional development programs for Texas veterans.

HOFV is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to helping veterans transition successfully into civilian life. The organization provides financial assistance for higher education, skilled trades certifications and mental health support. By addressing both career development and emotional well-being, HOFV enables veterans to build stable, fulfilling lives after military service.

“This year’s gala marked a major milestone for our organization,” said Lisa Adams, Hats Off For Veterans CEO. “Reaching our 20th anniversary and raising $18,000 speaks volumes about the dedication of our supporters and the strength of our mission. These funds will directly impact veterans who are working hard to build successful futures.”

HOFV is pleased to announce the presentation of two $2,000 scholarships awarded to U.S. Army Specialists Junjie Deng, a student at the University of Texas, and Nolan Berry, attending Texas State University. These scholarships will help cover tuition, books and other education-related expenses.

The afternoon event was held outdoors and welcomed guests with very cool weather, a Black’s BBQ plate and live performances from Blue Water Highway. The gala brought together veterans, families, community leaders and supporters for a celebration of service and resilience.

The funds raised will allow HOFV to expand its reach, offering additional scholarships, professional development assistance and support services to veterans across the state. By focusing on both academic degrees and trade certifications, HOFV aims to address the diverse goals and career paths of today’s veterans.

“HOFV recognizes that the transition from military to civilian life can be challenging,” Adams said. “Our programs are designed to remove financial barriers and open doors to meaningful careers, whether through a university degree or a skilled trade.”

HOFV encourages veterans across Texas to explore the resources available through its programs. Whether pursuing a college education or certification in a skilled trade, veterans can count on HOFV as a committed supporter.
