WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND?

The San Marcos Daily Record staff gives recommendations on what to do in our community

FRIED FISH AND HOT RODS

The Juneteenth foundation will be hosting its annual Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Dunbar Recreation Center. You do not want to miss this. Plates are only $10, and I have been thinking about that crispy catfish and perfectly seasoned sides since last year! Don’t forget to check the paper for other upcoming Juneteenth events. If you’re a car fan and/or a fan of a cold, alcoholic beverage, check out Rods at Riley’s from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at 8894 Farm to Market Road 1102. There will be classic cars, cool tunes and great company, according to the Facebook post. Linda Gail Lewis will play with her rockabilly band at 4 p.m.

QUEER MARKET & MOVIES

Enjoy camaraderie and connection with a rainbow of love at Triple Six Social’s Pride Market & Queer Advocacy Organizations Fair. This all-ages market is a way for folks to find out what is available for any needs or just for a sense of community. The market itself is free and open to all, with booths from local groups and organizations, but there will also be a screening of “To Wong Fu, Thanks For Everything, Julie Numar” in the back parking lot, which will be a paid event. Local Mistress of Mayhem Smokey Zbornak will present the movie as part of her monthly horror/comedy commentary show. For that portion of the event, tickets are $6 and participants should bring a chair or blanket since it will be held outside. The market will run from 6 to 10 p.m. with a pre-show starting at 7:30 p.m. The movie will start at 8:30 p.m. when the sun starts to set.

LOVE BUG

Happy June dear readers! Start the month off with the ‘Love’s Palette’ exhibition opening at the San Marcos Arts Center today from 6 to 8 p.m. The show will be up until June 27, but there’s no better time to view the art than at the reception! There will be food and refreshments as well as multiple artists who are in the show to mingle with. Visit the gallery at 117 North Guadalupe Street.

Bug out on Saturday at Roughhouse Brewing for BUG FEST! From 12 to 5 p.m. bring the whole family out to bug out! The brewery will be releasing their new Bug Guts IPA and TX Science Peers will be tabling and providing activities for all ages. There will be bug hunts, insect crafts, delicious dirt cups and so much more. The Capital Area chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists will also be there providing activities and local bug insights. Bee involved and fly your way over to 680 Oakwood Loop for a buggin good time!
