Rotary to highlight early history of TXST

Dr. Grady Early shares information about the early history of what is now Texas State University with the Rotary Club of San Marcos on June 11. Grady is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus and taught math and computer science at Texas State for 29 years. He served briefly as chair of the Computer Science Department.

After retirement, Early began researching his family history and gained familiarity with various research tools including Ancestry.com, Family-Search, newspapers, San Marcos Record archives, Find a Grave and others. This made it easy for him to research the histories of non-family members, leading to a series of stories for the San Marcos Daily Record about Southwest Texas State Normal School in San Marcos, also known as San Marcos Normal, which is now Texas State University. His newspaper series highlights the first staff at San Marcos Texas State Normal School and includes background information about the school in its early days, up to the early 1920s.

Rotary meets Wednesday at noon at the VFW Hall, located at 1701 Hunter Road. Visitors are always welcome at meetings. Rotary is nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious.
