San Marcos’ Purgatory Creek Chorale Masterworks Chorus will perform Gabriel Fauré’s melodious Requiem for choir, orchestra and organ on Saturday, June 14, 3 - 4 p.m. at the San Marcos High School Performing Arts Center. The chorus is comprised of vocalists from San Marcos and the surrounding areas, including professional musicians, hobbyists, and many student musicians from the SMHS fine arts programs. Purgatory Creek Chorale’s director Andrew McNair notes, “This community of singers are teachers, hairdressers, first responders, retirees and students, age 15 - 76, who come together to make music in San Marcos.”
Finally completed in 1900 in seven movements, the Requiem uses traditional texts from a mass for the dead to express “a more expansive view of the changing seasons in life, honoring what came before so we can celebrate the future we create together.”
The Masterworks Chorale is a blended ensemble of professionals from the Purgatory Creek Chamber Choir along with community members with a variety of experience levels and backgrounds. This multi-generational group of singers offers one concert each year. Tickets can be purchased at PurgatoryCreekChorale. org/tickets or at the door on the day of the concert.
