John Maberry discusses the impact of data centers on communities at Rotary

Data Centers are a hot topic in communities, partly because of the water and energy they require. John Maberry will discuss their impact at the Rotary Club of San Marcos meeting on Wednesday, June 18. Rotary meets at noon at the VFW Hall, located at 1701 Hunter Road. Visitors are always welcome at Rotary meetings.

Maberry says he hopes to provide helpful information about data centers in general and Highlander’s proposal in San Marcos in particular.

“When discussing the data center industry it is important to understand two things: one, data centers are now as much a part of our daily infrastructure as electricity, water, wastewater, roads and telecommunications. And two, the data centers that are being built today are not the same as the data centers that were built even five years ago - they no longer require significant water resources, and in many cases, are the most environmentally sensitive developments being constructed,” Maberry said.

Maberry is the Managing Partner of Highlander Real Estate Partners, a company that has acquired and developed thousands of acres in Texas and Colorado. The company seeks to build a 199-acre data center in San Marcos on the western side of Francis Harris Lane, south of the intersection between Grant Harris Road and Francis Harris Lane.

Maberry has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MBA in Finance from Southern Methodist University. Before joining Highlander, he was a Division President of Forestar Central Texas. He lives in Austin.

Rotary is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and non-religious service organization. Every week the club invites interesting speakers on a variety of subjects. The club was founded 104 years ago.
