62nd annual Texas Water Safari wraps over the weekend

TEXAS WATER SAFARI

The 62nd annual Texas Water Safari took place over the weekend, starting at Spring Lake in San Marcos.

The annual summer race is known famously as the “World’s Toughest Canoe Race” where competitors start at the head waters of the San Marcos River before finishing at Seadrift in the San Antonio Bay in a 100-hour deadline.

This year’s overall winner was the Ride of the Valkyries made up of the team of Shannon Issendorf, William Russell, Chris Issendorf, Katlin Mynar, Kyle Mynar and Dodd Yeager. The Ride of the Valkyries finished the Texas Water Safari with a time of 31 hours and one minute.

This year’s race saw a change in the finish point line due to recent rainstorms elevating the river levels to dangerous conditions. The TWS Board announced on Sunday the new finish point was at Swinging Bridge in Bloomington. The TWS Board also announced all competitors have been accounted for.
