Dwayne Thomason of Thomason Funeral Home was recognized Wednesday, June 10 by the Texas Funeral Directors Association for serving 50 years as a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Texas.

He was presented the award by his former mentee Cody Lopasky, President of the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, a nationally recognized vocational school in the funeral industry and Thomason’s alma mater. Thomason graduated with honors from Commonwealth College in 1974 and is currently serving on its Advisory Board.

Thomason was born in Humble and became a licensed funeral director in 1975. In 1983, he moved to San Marcos to build and open the Thomason Funeral Home. Together with his wife Marsha and son Ryan, Thomason has expanded his business to include locations in Wimberley and Lockhart.

Thomason remains very active in the day-to-day running of his business and has always endeavored to personally attend every funeral hosted at one of his funeral homes. He has served thousands of families over the past five decades and has also served his community through memberships with Rotary and Crimestoppers in San Marcos and Kiwanis Club in Lockhart.
