With men’s physical and mental health a growing concern, Dr. Richard Laue, chief medical officer with University Health Services at Texas State University, joins the Enlighten Me podcast to discuss this pressing topic.
June is Men’s Health Awareness Month, and there is increasing awareness of men’s mental and physical health issues, especially among the college age demographic. In this powerful podcast episode, “Man Enough: Rethinking men’s health,” Laue discusses with hosts Edward Sanchez and Rodney Crouther how young men are negatively impacted by stigmas surrounding mental health care and that age group’s avoidance of proper medical screenings.
“I would have to say the biggest misconception for men about men’s health is that if they ignore the problem it’ll go away,” Laue said. “Men are just notorious for simply not addressing their health, not going to the doctor, not seeking mental health care when appropriate, not getting their physicals or screenings. I don’t know that that’s a misconception so much as it is part of most men’s nature.”
