Jazz Artist Hank Hehmsoth showcases new works in Expressions of Freedom exhibit

Acclaimed jazz artist, composer and professor Hank Hehmsoth will exhibit two original digital artworks in Expressions of Freedom, the Walker Gallery’s summer group exhibition running June 28 through Aug. 23. An Artists’ Reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18. The Walker’s Gallery is located at 501 East Hopkins Street.

Hehmsoth’s featured pieces “The Reach for Innocence” and “Thought Races,” which explore the broad theme of freedom through digital media. Created on iPad Pro using Procreate and Apple Pencil, the works delve into childhood imagination and the energy of unbound creative thought. “The Reach for Innocence” celebrates childhood wonder and the bold freedom to dream. “Thought Races” captures the vibrant chaos of creative momentum and mental freedom.

“This digital format has opened up exciting new creative directions for me,” said Hehmsoth, whose work blends visual art with a deep background in music and improvisation.
