LOCAL BUSINESSES

From humble beginnings in the food truck game to now over seven brick and mortar locations, Tumble 22 has landed in San Marcos. The chicken restaurant opened its doors to the public this month after much anticipation. The announcement post on social media was flooded with comments of people begging the restaurant to come to their town. The San Marcos location sits on the corner of 1104 Thorpe Lane, neighboring The Cornucopia across from the big H-E-B. What was once a rent-toown furniture store has been gutted and transformed into an eatery equipped with a full bar and a spacious outdoor patio.

The menu offers a variety of flavors from their O.G. chicken sandwich topped with fresh coleslaw, bread-n-butter pickles and Dukes Mayo, to unique flavors like their Korean BBQ sandwich or their July sandwich of the month, the Fuego Triple Threat. This sandwich is a hot chip lover’s dream, with chorizo, queso and Takis stacked on crispy fried chicken. Tumble 22 CEO Doug Thompson raved about the Korean BBQ sandwich, calling it a five napkin experience.

The restaurant serves up chicken in all forms. Although they are known for their sandwiches, they serve chicken tenders, salads, bone-in chicken, fries and sides to satisfy any southern craving. Their housemade pies are the perfect way to end the meal with classics, including key lime, pecan and buttermilk. Chocoholics will enjoy a selection of their classic chocolate pie with a whipped vanilla sweet cream topping or their peanut butter mouse pie, which is sold by the slice or whole-pie.

“We are excited to bring Tumble 22 to San Marcos and introduce even more people to our bold, Texas style chicken,” Thompson said. “I am incredibly proud of our team for creating a place where people can gather, enjoy amazing food and feel right at home. Whether you’re here to catch a game or just grab a drink with friends, we want you to feel the energy and hospitality that define us.”

The craftsmanship is their namesake, with Tumble 22 representing the 22 times the hand breaded, Texas-raised chicken is tumbled. They offer six levels of heat for each sandwich, so one can customize their spice experience. There is something for everyone from grilled chicken options to a plant based sandwich as well.

“The goal is to be quick and fast but fresh and good,” Tumble 22 Director of Training & Marketing Kim Brynn said. “We make all of our items from scratch every single day. We have zero microwaves in any of our stores, which I think is definitely a testimonial to the true aspect of home cooking.”

At the friends and family preview event, Tumble 22 invited local charities to receive a portion of profits from the event helping School Fuel, which provides nutritious meals to San Marcos kids in need. The restaurant also partnered with Hats Off For Veterans, which provides higher education scholarships, professional development grants and mental health resources to veterans. Tumble 22 also offers veterans free meals every veterans day.

“Through our 1% giveback program, we’re committed to supporting the local community that supports us. It’s about great food, great people, and doing a little good along the way,” Thompson said.

Tumble 22 is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
