LOCAL DONATION DRIVE
Central Texas iHeart Radio Stations come together to help flood victims
Many communities around the Hill Country are still dealing with the fallout from the devastating floods that occurred Fourth of July weekend. The local iHeart Radio stations saw the need and came together to organize a donation drive at Cheatham Street Warehouse on Wednesday. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., disc jockeys and employees of the radio stations volunteered their time to accept and organize donations from the San Marcos and Central Texas communities. Stations included 96.7 Kiss FM Austin, KJ97 San Antonio, 104.5 Latino Hits, Mix 96.1 San Antonio and 98.1 KVET Austin. They focused on donations such as toiletries, first aid items, baby essentials, sunscreen, pet supplies, bug spray, and feminine hygiene products, but accepted any donation that could help first responders and families affected by the flood damage.
“Our number one job as radio stations is to serve the community and for that reason we mobilized iHeart Radio stations, not just in San Antonio but also in Austin and we decided to meet at the middle point between both cities which is San Marcos, to invite our listeners to come out and make donations of either non perishable food items or everyday items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, even something as simple as socks that will benefit those who have lost everything right now,” said iHeart Media Director of Programming and Brand Strategy Pedro Escalera. “Folks showed up, made their donations and the end result is we have plenty of stuff to send off to Kerville and help those in need.”
The iHeart stations are committed to continued help by promoting monetary donation drives and by organizing a iHeart Texas Flood Relief Auction online. All proceeds from the auction will be directly donated to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund to help those affected rebuild and recover. The auction includes signed guitars by country music legends, concert tickets, Basketball tickets, Seaworld tickets, trip tickets and more.
